Perfect Duluth Day was founded on June 29, 2003 by Scott “Starfire” Lunt and Barrett Chase. Their goal was to develop a community blog for Duluthians to share information about the events, history and culture of the area.
PDD became a limited liability company in 2009. In addition to the founders, other partners are Cory Fechner, Brian Barber and Paul Lundgren.
Content on the website is created by over 2,000 registered users, who author the posts that appear each day. Hundreds more contribute through comments to the posts. Google Analytics estimates about 25,000 unique visitors read PDD’s content each month.
In addition to the blog, Perfect Duluth Day also publishes the PDD Calendar, an online source for listings of concerts, plays, sports other local events and happenings.
Perfect Duluth Day celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2013 and was recognized with a congratulatory plaque from the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce. Duluth-Superior Magazine named PDD the Best Website and Best Blog in its “Best of 2013 Guide.”
PDD’s publishing platform is WordPress, an open source application that manages blog content. Prior to Jan. 30, 2009, PDD used two other platforms: Moveable Type (2005 to 2009) and Blogger (2003 to 2005).
