The University of Minnesota Duluth Department of Art and Design presents its Annual Student Exhibition: Authentic Intelligence, now on view at the Tweed Museum of Art through April 21, with a public reception and awards ceremony on Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m. Preceding the reception, from 10 a.m. to noon, will be Art in Ordean Court, an annual market of art available for sale created by UMD students.

Duluth Folk School hosts an altar box painting workshop. Participants will create their own altar box in two phases: on the new moon they will pick out and paint their alter box. Then, on the full moon, participants will gather again to finish their creations. Registration is required.

The Art Walk is a self-guided tour through Tower Hall and the College of Saint Scholastica Theatre. Attendees can view visual art showcasing the work of senior art students and music provided by the St. Scholastica Choirs, String Orchestra, Steel Band, and Handbell Ensemble. The tour begins at Mitchell Auditorium, with programs and maps available directing attendees to various art and music stops throughout campus. Use various materials like paper, fabric and found objects in conjunction with painting to create a personal collage painting to take home — all supplies is provided.

This streamlined workshop focuses on the essentials of mixed media painting. Designed for artists of all levels, the class offers a hands-on experience in creating mixed media art. Participants will learn fundamental techniques to combine various materials and mediums to create unique, expressive paintings. The session includes two hours of instruction by David Austin and all the materials to create a mixed media painting to take home.

An evening to benefit Life House Duluth featuring music, film and performances by young artists from Life House Duluth, the Music Resource Center and local schools. This event features the premiere of Light Holder, a short film documentary by Jeremy Gardner following Life House alum Jasmine Clark's journey from loss, abuse, unstable foster care and youth homelessness to stability, entrepreneurship and community activism.

Alison Aune and University of Minnesota Duluth art and education students lead art lessons for children during this 12-session course. Celebrate Carl Gawboy's new book, Fur Trade Nation: An Ojibwe's Graphic History. This beautiful publication is the debut of Animikii Mazina’iganan: Thunderbird Press, from Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College. The evening will include a feast, a performance from Oshkii Giizhik Singers, brief remarks from the author and a book signing.

The Twin Ports Poetry Showcase highlights 30 poetic voices within the Duluth/Superior and surrounding region. A panel of local writers spread throughout the Twin Ports will read and review submissions to select the 30 readers. Poets are selected through a blind reading (without the author's name attached) by the review team, and performers will be informed if they've been selected within the first couple weeks of April. Annual Student and Instructor Exhibition
The Great Lakes Academy of Fine Art hosts its 8th annual exhibition featuring new works by students and faculty. This event is free to the public. The open house will be held on Friday, May 3rd, from 5 pm to 9 pm and Saturday May 4th, from 12 noon to 5 pm. This event will feature live music opening night and a food truck on site both days. Work will be available for purchase to support the students.
