Poetry reading with Danny Klecko
Celebrate poetry with a reading and conversation by St. Paul poet (and baker) Danny Klecko, hosted by Duluth poet Jess Morgan. Klecko was born in Los Angeles. During his youth, he moved to Minneapolis where he discovered at a young age that he was destined to be a baker. Eventually he went on to study bread courses at Dunwoody Technical College in Minneapolis and the American Institute of Baking in Manhattan, Kansas. An event every week that begins at 5:00 pm on Monday, repeating until May 6, 2024
Writer Katie Perttunen teaches writing within six weeks at Foundations of Flash Fiction. Perttunen has published two books, written for three newspapers and was the poetry editor for an online literary magazine. This class is best for ages 12 and older and is for both experienced and beginner writers. Participants will need to bring paper, writing implements and the book "Elements of Style".

The Duluth Public Library hosts a Disability Visibility Fair at the Main Library. The day’s highlights include over a dozen local organizations to share information on disability and accessibility, a community art project facilitated by CHOICE Unlimited, a community book discussion, and talk by local musician and disability culture advocate, Gaelynn Lea. Celebrate Carl Gawboy's new book, Fur Trade Nation: An Ojibwe's Graphic History. This beautiful publication is the debut of Animikii Mazina’iganan: Thunderbird Press, from Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College. The Twin Ports Poetry Showcase highlights 30 poetic voices within the Duluth/Superior and surrounding region. A panel of local writers spread throughout the Twin Ports will read and review submissions to select the 30 readers. Focus on the fundamental building blocks of storytelling at the Duluth Folk School. Look at genre and literary fiction to find your voice within. After examining examples, you will have a variety of prompts to craft your own personal narrative. After several rounds of revision and discussion, you will leave with a piece ready to pitch to the variety of literary magazines, both virtually and in print. Staci Lola Drouillard is presenting a story-time and book-signing as she debuts her new children's book A Family Tree. Staci Lola Drouillard lives and works in her hometown of Kitchibitobig — Grand Marais. Her first book for adults, Walking the Old Road: A People’s History of Chippewa City and the Grand Marais Anishinaabe, won the Hamlin Garland Prize in Popular History, the Northeastern Minnesota Book Award for nonfiction and was a finalist for the Minnesota Book Award.

Book Signing with Cheri Johnson
Meet Cheri Johnson who will be at Zenith Bookstore signing copies of her new book Annika Rose. Johnson has won grants and residencies from organizations such as the McKnight Foundation, the Bush Foundation, Yaddo and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. She studied writing at the University of Minnesota, Hollins University and Augsburg University.
