Colbert takes on Pawlenty’s dramatic ads
At PDD, we compared Pawlenty to Superman, among other things, for his chest-puffed image on his book cover. Stephen Colbert one ups us by comparing him to Brawny Man.
At PDD, we called Pawlenty President of the United States of Apocalypse after viewing his book trailer. Colbert says Pawlenty is “running for President of the next Transformers movie.” That one could probably go either way.

The hubris on display in Mr. Pawlenty’s “ad” (or whatever it is supposed to be) is truly astonishing. It is hard to tell if he really believes this stuff or simply is content to sell the last shred of his integrity for a run at the White House.
Pawlenty’s implicit support for genocide was striking. He has really sunk to a new low.
Colbert pointed out how settling the west was done in morally evil ways. It also wasn’t easy, as Pawlenty pointed out, since sometimes what is wrong is also hard to do.
My guess is that Pawlenty either never considered the (true) connection between settling the west and genocide, or he did and wanted to play to his base. Either way, it is not cool.
An FB friend of mine thinks that Mr. Pawlenty’s accent sounds faintly “Texas” in his second ad, which shows him talking to the Tea Party, I believe. He’s quite the opportunist. I loved the comparison between the actual video of him speaking before the Washington Press Club and the sped-up video in his first ad.
Fascinating dissection of the accent there, Claire. Part of what angered me (yep angered) about this appearance by Rep Chip Cravaack on Fox News (setting aside for a moment his desire to slash education and also the fact that he wants to dismantle the Dept of Energy and turn it over to the Navy) is that he sounds a lot like Mike Huckabee and the guy from Oklahoma. He just doesn’t sound Minnesotan, like he’s trying to fit in with these guys. Either that or his roots are showing.
It’s a comfort knowing the only thing standing in the way of us, and another era of fascist right wing rule in the USA, is Colbert and Stewart … (political/verbal blunders aside) and when it comes down to the last second of saving the day, they’ll be ready to use their secret weapons, Kid Rock and Bono.
Here’s a funny skit. Stewart sends his angry camel to Washington. Hussein Obama puts on his fez and abaya and rides the beast around the streets of Washington, asking ordinary people questions like “What country was the President of the United States born in?” or “Who is the Vice President?” Now THAT would be funny. In the mean time, relax! Your anger is misguided my bunny hugging friends. You should be spending your energy on acclimating yourself during this transition. You’ll feel better in the long run.
