Duluth band Trampled by Turtles will sing the National Anthem when the Minnesota Twins host the New York Yankees at Target Field in Minneapolis on Monday. The best-of-five American League playoff series begins tonight. TBT’s version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” will happen prior to Game 3 on Monday, Oct. 7, at 7:40 p.m.
Here’s a look back to 1987 — when the Minnesota Twins won their first World Series and Wally the Beer Man was in the limelight.
Aug. 5, 1987: Paul Guggenheimer mans the sports desk to deliver the news that Twins pitcher Joe Niekro has been suspended for possession of an emery board and sandpaper. Plus, highlights of a Twins/Angels game; the downside is the Twins lose, the upside is they went on to win the World Series that year.
I guess this one is right up there with “Did You See Jackie Robinson Hit That Ball?” and “Joltin’ Joe DiMaggio.”
