Superior Public Library 125th Anniversary Video Contest

Help the Superior Public Library celebrate its quasiquicentennial! Produce a 30-second to 10-minute video that highlights the Superior Public Library. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place, as well as staff favorite. Submissions will be accepted Sept. 3 through Aug. 31.

Nominations close Feb. 1 for Northeastern Minnesota Book Awards

Celebrating books about northeastern Minnesota published in 2013. Send one book plus $25 nomination fee to UMD Kathryn A. Martin Library. Winners will be announced May 22.

Annual Duluth Public Library Book Sale

The Friends of the Duluth Public Library invite you to the Annual Used Book Sale. The dates this year are August 18 and 19 from 10 until 5:30 p.m. and the Bag Sale on Friday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. There is early admission for Friends members on August 17 from 10 until 5:30 p.m. People can join Friends at the sale. Shop for bargain books, CDs, DVDs, books on tape. A silent auction will be held with older and rarer books. All proceeds from this fundraiser go toward Duluth Public Library book and media purchases and toward programs held at the library.

Are you a Member of the Friends of the Duluth Public Library? It’s only $10 per year and let’s you get into the sale on Tuesday, Aug 17 – 10 to 5:30. You may join the Friends of the DPL on-site.

May 1 Book Fair at Barnes and Noble, Fundraiser for Duluth Public Library

Saturday, May 1, Barnes and Noble Duluth hosts a Bookfair to benefit Friends of the Duluth Public Library. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Library. Vouchers are available online at

Come get bargain books, DVDs, videos, CDs, vinyl and more at the annual book sale held at the Duluth Public Library, 520 W. Superior St. Hours for the sale are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Aug 19 and 20 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the bag sale on Friday, Aug 21. The sale is open to Friends members only on Tuesday, Aug 18 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There will be a special handicap-accessible shopping time from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Wed, Aug. 19. Book categories include children’s books, fiction, biographies, cookbooks, nature, and much more. People can join Friends at the book fair or on-line at www.duluth.lib.mn.us/CS/Friends.html.

A silent auction will be held on the library upper level during the book fair and will have rare and unique books.

On Saturday, Aug 22, there will be a Book Fair at the Barnes & Noble at the Miller Hill Mall. Purchases made on that day will help to raise funds for the Friends of Library. The support voucher can be picked up at the book sale, at the library, or on-line at www.duluth.lib.mn.us/CS/Friends.html.
