Flutes & Low is the folk duo project of Ben Pichler and Cambria Haen. Since meeting and playing music together in Duluth, they have put their musical talents together to create lush sounds and memorable melodies. They are joined by Lu Starr and Wetland Willows

Hailed by Iron Range native and folk singer Paul Metsa as the “Johnny and June of Northern Minnesota,” this acoustic duo has been performing in and around the state since 2010. Well-known for their vocal harmonies, their repertoire consists of country/folk/rock classics mixed in with original compositions inspired by the north country.
Martha Scanlan & Jon Neufeld
Martha Scanlan is an award-winning songwriter based in western Montana. Her writing comes out of some of the deepest roots of Americana, winding between the mountains of East Tennessee and some of Montana’s most remote landscapes including a 120-year-old cattle ranch where she spent years living and working. She appeared on T Bone Burnett’s Cold Mountain soundtrack with former bandmates, Reeltime Travelers. Her songs have been covered by Sarah Jarosz, Andrew Marlin, Amy Helm and Solas and have found their way into books by authors Rick Bass and Joyce Carol Oates.
Jon Neufeld lives in Portland, Oregon and plays with a variety of musicians there including longtime bands Jackstraw (bluegrass) and The Kung Pow Chickens (Django jazz). Well-known for his innovative guitar playing, he is also a multi-intrumentalist, producer and mastering engineer. He has appeared on The Tonight Show and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert with his former band Black Prairie and toured Europe in an impossibly small rental car with famed Portland Indie band Dolorean.

Blue Valentine
Blue Valentine is a Tom Waits tribute group based out of Duluth. Instead of a traditional, slow-burning jazz approach, the trio takes songs from Waits’ massive catalog of junkyard tunes and turns them into up-tempo, punk-influenced numbers.

New owners reopen Cedar Lounge in Superior

Trailblazing craft brewery owner and longtime Duluth bar developer Tim Nelson is ready to launch his newest drinking establishment in a historic, working waterfront neighborhood on the Superior side of the Twin Ports.
The Cedar Lounge, 1715 N. Third Street, just off Tower Avenue, opens in the shadows of the Harvest State Co-op grain elevators Friday, Aug. 26. Nelson and his wife, Naomi, purchased the historic bar building in December and the property has undergone a seven-month restoration. (more…)
New owner takes over Superior’s Cedar Lounge
The Cedar Lounge is located just off Tower Avenue at Third Street in Superior’s North End. The new owner has not announced plans for the property.
The wife of former Fitger’s Brewhouse co-owner Tim Nelson has her name on the recently transferred liquor license of a decades-old Superior tavern.
The Superior City Council granted Cedar Forest LLC a Class B liquor and beer license for the Cedar Lounge, 1715 N. Third St., at its Dec. 15 meeting. The license application lists the sole member of Cedar Forest as Naomi C. Nelson, wife of Duluth micro-brew trailblazer Tim Nelson. (more…)
