Twins done; Trampled by Turtles’ National Anthem video lives
The Minnesota Twins ended an historic season by bowing to the New York Yankees in three straight playoff games. But Duluth band Trampled by Turtles was able to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” before it was all over. Video via Jumbotron above.

Trampled by Turtles to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” Monday
Duluth band Trampled by Turtles will sing the National Anthem when the Minnesota Twins host the New York Yankees at Target Field in Minneapolis on Monday. The best-of-five American League playoff series begins tonight. TBT’s version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” will happen prior to Game 3 on Monday, Oct. 7, at 7:40 p.m.

Duluth’s David Kittelson, aka Beyondbliss, raps while kayaking in Alaska.
Peter, Paul & Mary – “Love City (Postcards to Duluth)”

Working through a personal record collection from Gabriel’s
The $5 bag sale happens a few times a year at Gabriel’s Books. I swung by on Saturday and filled a grocery sack with a book on new testament theology by Rudolf Bultmann (what kind of nerd has a favorite theologian, in this case an “existential theologian” committed to “demythologizing” the Bible?), and a book by Frederic Wertham (now that is comic nerd excellence right there) and a stack of 45rpm records. Two versions of “Love My Lips”
The Christian children’s television series VeggieTales referenced Duluth in the 1996 episode “Dave and the Giant Pickle.” A regular feature on the show is a segment called “Silly Songs with Larry,” in which Larry the Cucumber and other Veggie characters sing a silly song. (more…)
Superior Siren – Cover songs from 56 Brewing
Minnesota-based video production company Headwaters Entertainment produced three music videos of Duluth band Superior Siren performing cover songs at 56 Brewing in Minneapolis back in May. “The Begat” from the musical Finian’s Rainbow
The 1947 Broadway musical Finian’s Rainbow featured the song “The Begat,” which included a reference to Duluth. It’s at the 1:24 mark in the clip above from the original Broadway cast album, featuring Jerry Laws, Lorenzo Fuller and Louis Sharp. (more…)
