Hagstrom & Forsgren Furniture opened in 1926

Hagstrom & Forsgren Furniture Company in Duluth’s friendly West End held its grand opening event 100 years ago today — June 12, 1926. The building at 1910-1912 W. Superior St. is presently the location of Frost River, a manufacturer of canvas bags, canoe packs and other outdoor gear.

Erick Hagstrom and Nels L. Forsgren were the store’s proprietors. R.R. Forward was the building owner and George H. Lounsberry’s company served as the contractor. Construction began in the fall of 1925 and the two-story building was completed in April 1926. Hagstrom & Forsgren moved in on May 1. They had previously operated their business one block southwest of this location at 2010-2012 W. Superior St. The store was launched at that location in 1921.

Minnesota Surplus and Outfitters was a longtime occupant of the building at 1910 W. Superior St. Frost River took over the spot in 2011 when Minnesota Surplus consolidated into a single downtown location.
