Lozon’s Marine Bar and Grill

Tracey Clark, owner of the resale shop Tracey’s Treasures of Duluth, submitted this photo of an old beer glass she recently acquired. It raises two questions: Where and when could a person or mermaid find Lozon’s Marine Bar and Grill? The answer, according to Superior city directories, was at 3827 E. Second St. in the Allouez neighborhood. Today that spot is the parking lot of the Tipsy Beaver Bar.

The last year Lozon’s is listed in a city directory is 1977. The proprietors were Wallace and Mary Lozon. Wally died in 1979; Mary died in 2011. They also owned and operated the Mr. Softie Ice Cream Truck. According to Mary’s obituary, she was employed at Pooler Drug in the East End of Superior and the Superior Hospital after the bar was sold.

Clark obtained the glass from an estate sale. “A couple is moving to Arizona and lightening their load,” she wrote. “It was in his father’s home bar.”
