This is how some of more than 1,000 square dancers looked from the top of the scoreboard in the Duluth Arena Saturday. The terpsichoreans, from a five-state region and Canada, are here through today for Shindig ’75, sponsored by the Duluth Square Dance Association.

Some of the butterflies at right have been emerging periodically from the cocoons at left to participate in Shindig ’75, a major event of the Duluth Square Dance Association. Some of the dancers, from a five-state region and Canada, have been living in the Arena parking lot since Shindig ’75 began Thursday. The group shown taking part in Saturday’s activities is from Virginia. If they danced in all of Saturday’s sessions they would have danced about 15 miles since the event began. They can rest their feet tonight, as Shindig ’75 ends this afternoon.

I was at this event with my parents. Dad did silk screening for side work and decided to sell T-shirts at the event. The verbiage was something like "Square Dancing is Fun." I think we had some left over but I can't find any of them. If you have one let me know.

It is fun by the way ... give it try someday.

I'm not sure how old this T-shirt is, or if it was screen printed in Duluth, but it is brilliant. It has kind of an early 1990s look to it, so probably not the one sold at Shindig '75.
