As you may all know David Sedaris was in town last night promoting the soft-cover release of his latest book When You Are Engulfed in Flames. I had the honor of playing tunes for the waiting crowd which finally wound down at 1 a.m.. I don’t imagine there are any authors that stick around until every last book is signed but he sure did. I could have left early but I was hoping to have him record a promo for my radio show, which he did! I also recorded the show on my phone for those of you who didn’t make it out. It is in 5 parts and may be downloaded below.

Thanks again Mr. Sedaris and I apologize for the photo I snapped of you. It was taken before I found out they were not allowed.

You get really good sound out of that phone of yours. Back in my radio days I think of all the equipment we had to drag around to get good sound ... now it can be done on a simple i-phone/i-pod, huh?

I wish I would've known you'd be there til one am, I would've come down.

I had a ticket and I was going to go until I called and heard that they had 2 school busses for people to sit in and listen to him. I live 2 hours away and I just couldn't do the drive in the crappy weather and sit in a steamy school bus. Man, I spent most of my youth in a school bus but that's another story. In some ways I wish I would have gone to his reading because I'm sure he is going to write an essay about the time he went to speak at a small bookstore in Duluth and even though it was June it was still winter and the store was so small they rented school busses....you know how the rest is going to go.....

OK, when he mentions where he was the night before, and hesitates. . .that's me yelling "Evansville, Indiana!" I know the man's tour schedule like the back of my hand. And it's FARGO tonight.

What a great promo - he's just hilarious. I was happy to wait over 5 hours to get my book signed.

Great! Sedaris was in Albany (where I currently am a couple of days ago, too). I, too, have a pic of him that I wasn't supposed to take (and it looks a lot like yours).

Julie, how many people came to see him in Albany?

Does anyone know anyone in Fargo who went and saw Sedaris there last night? I just called the bookstore to get a number for how many people came and no one there could even tell me!

500 people saw Sedaris in Evansville Ind. Sunday, 300 in Duluth, and 400 in Fargo.

Below is the link to my story in Publishers Weekly on Sedaris' stop in Duluth. Duluth is on the literary map, wonder if other publishers will start sending their big-time authors here? One can only hope.

I hear Sedaris FINALLY got to taste breast milk in Fargo. He mentioned it during the event, evidently someone was nursing, put it in a container, and gave him some to taste. Only Sedaris.
