Men at work

Work continues on the McQuade Public Boat Access about five miles up the North Shore from Duluth on Wednesday.
I'm guessing that some kind of group was visiting the site.

Thanks to Pat Maus at the Northeast Minnesota Historical Center for scanning a ton of images and adding them to the Minnesota Digital Library collections. There are lots and lots of cool old photos like this and this.
Find the site here: http://reflections.mndigital.org/
The most recently added photos are linked by the phrase "Neigborhoods of Duluth." Or, do an advanced search and limit the collection to Northeast Minnesota Historical Center.
Some sweet old photos.

taken with my Blackberry...

As of this posting, there are currently 475 photos on Flickr tagged "homegrownmusicfestival2008." I'm sure there will soon be many, many more. This is a slideshow of all of them.
If you're a Flickr member and you have Homegrown photos from this year's events, simply tag your photos homegrownmusicfestival2008 to add them to this slideshow.
You can click on a photo during the slideshow to find out who took it and read any information they might have posted along with it (such as a title or description)
You can also manually page through the photos here.
Keeping with the same template as last year, I've [EDIT: and others] started tagging [our] Homegrown Flickr photos as homegrownmusicfestival2008. I think it would be cool if other Flickr users did as well, so that we might assemble a massive slideshow of the week's events.
To see photos from this year as well as years past, check out the Homegrown Pool on Flickr.
Otherwise, watch PDD for photo updates as Homegrown progresses.

The triumphant return of the PDD Game Night!
Thanks to everyone who came! Thanks to DragonPort Games for allowing us to take over their backroom!
Last night's game: A rousing rout of RoboRally!
(Photos taken with my Blackberry... sorry, Edge, I'll get a good photo of you next time!)

Six men go to Gronk's in Superior, dragging photo and lighting equipment with them. They order a 6-pound (!) "Enger Tower Burger." And then they completely devour it on camera.
Excellent. So damn excellent.

surfing season had ended but the waves were great for us!
So most of the pictures are visible on the Flickr site (as linked to on the right-hand margin ... yeah, keep scrolling down). However, there are a couple which aren't -- what gives?
Specifically, I want to know the background story to the black-and-white one that features some girls dancing and an old guy sort of standing there eyeballing them.

I know there are a lot of winter freaks out there who love the snow. By contrast, I am enjoying watching the snow melt.
Gooseberry Falls is roaring loud right now and worth the trip. I took this picture of a guy fishing.
My photos are up on Flickr. I tagged them GeekProm2008.
Hey everyone, I grew up in Duluth/Superior and absolutely miss the weather. I know you've all got a crazy blizzard coming, and I'm stuck down in Madison, WI where its' cold and RAINING! (I hate the spring).
So, I'm totally jealous and wondering if anyone will be posting pictures. Pleeeease post cool pictures of all the snowfall if you're able to take any! Thanks so much, and be safe everyone!

I love the rotating PDD banners. We all love the rotating PDD banners. But a few of us had a discussion last week and came to the conclusion that it's time for some freshening up around here. So here's what we're gonna do:
1) Make new banners! Get out there and click, scan, whatever. These photos must be your originals and they must be locally relevant. They can be old or new, as long as they haven't been banners before.
2) Upload your banners to the new directory, /headers08/. (Same old technique - if you've done it before, you can do it again.)
3) When we get a good number of new banners in the new directory, we'll switch over to all-new banners. I'll keep the old directory intact, and sometime in the future after we've all forgotten the old banners, we can switch back for nostalgia's sake.

Our friend Dean took this a few days ago, shortly before leaving Antarctica:

A cute little otter chewing on a fish near the deck at Fitger's on Saturday at around 2:30pm...

We put our gingerbread house on the back deck for critters to eat, and this pine marten hopped up to it today. We live in Duluth, not far from Hartley Field.
Now I'm thinking I should scrape off all the candy.

This picture was taken a few mornings ago but I know people on here like this kind of thing. This was taken in my backyard in the middle of Woodland at about 6:50 a.m. I love mornings in the winter in this town!!! Anybody know any other good photo spots for people with point and shoot digital cameras?

Thanks to all who made it to the 6th annual Monroe Holiday Art Show.
Dude, I'm really stuck.

Found a couple galleries of historic photos and recent aerial photographs during a random search.
