Park Point 5-Miler and 2-Mile Walk 2026
The 55th annual Park Point 5-Miler starts near the Park Point Pavilion. Participants run down Minnesota Avenue before finishing back near the pavilion. They have the choice of a 5-mile run or a 2-mile walk.
This is the last of three races in the annual KP Challenge, in which participants commit to three races throughout the spring and summer. The others are the Saint Fennessy 4K and Fitger’s 5K. The aim of the challenge is to help participants keep on a regular training schedule and consistently complete longer distance races. Net proceeds benefit the Young Athletes Foundation, a Grandma’s Marathon program focused on the promotion and development of youth athletics.
In celebration of its 50th year, Grandma’s Marathon is offering free entries for those ages 18 and under to each of the five Young Athletes Foundation races in 2026.

Lake Superior Day on Barker’s Island in Superior features interactive activities, games and learning opportunities for kids, adults and families — all focused on learning about and appreciating this Great Lake. The event takes place outdoors along sidewalks and on grassy areas near and inside the Lake Superior Estuarium.
Lake Superior Day attendees can visit the Lake Superior Estuarium, open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; sign up for half-price tours of the SS Meteor, available from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; visit the new Twin Ports Community Market; navigate a water cycle obstacle course as a water droplet; create puppets representing plants and animals that live in and around the water; test water quality at the “Test the Estuary” station; and chat with scientists and other freshwater champions.
Stand-up paddle boarding demonstrations are available from noon to 3 p.m.
Those looking to get on the water can participate in the Paddle for the People 4K recreational paddle race around Barker’s Island, organized by North Shore Stand Up Paddleboarding. The free race begins at 10 a.m. with mandatory check-in from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Registration is available at duluthsup.com.
A free shuttle bus operates between the Superior Public Library and the event on Barker’s Island. Buses begin running at 10:45 a.m. and operate approximately every 30 minutes throughout the event. The bus is equipped with a lift, seating and space for up to three wheelchairs.
Lake Superior is the cleanest, coldest and clearest of the Great Lakes. The largest lake by surface area in the world, it fuels local shipping, commercial fishing and recreational industries while providing clean drinking water. Every day, each of the 600,000 human residents of the Lake Superior basin use water from the lake for drinking, home use, industrial use or recreation. The lake is essential for countless fish, birds, animals and plants.
Lake Superior Day was started in the early 1990s to highlight the importance of this great water body to the basin’s environment and economy. It is now held every third Sunday in July. This year’s event in Superior is coordinated by the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve with help from the city of Superior, Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve, North Shore SUP and the Douglas County 4-H Program.
