The University of Minnesota’s Natural Resources Research Institute (NRRI) invites the community to an open house at the Duluth facility. Whether you’re a curious neighbor, a local business leader or a student looking toward the future, come explore how teams are driving innovative applied research to deliver impacts for Minnesota and beyond. This event is free and open to the public.
Get a firsthand look at the first floor of the labs and facilities. Chat with researchers and engineers about their latest projects. Learn how the NRRI is turning environmental challenges into economic opportunities for the region.
Ecoprinting Silk Scarves
Plants contain a variety of natural pigments that can be printed directly onto fabrics in a technique called ecoprinting or contact dyeing.
Participants take a silk scarf, lay out a design in leaves and flowers and learn how to roll it into a bundle. Take the completed roll home to bake. The magic happens when you unroll your bundle the next day and discover a beautiful print.

Local artists Thor Leseman and the Wregulars play at Music in the Park at the Center Ice Park located at the Eveleth Community Center. Local food vendors will be available. Please bring chairs or a picnic blanket to sit on.

Tie-dye a tote bag. All the materials provided. Please note that tie-dye can get a little messy, so dress accordingly. All ages are welcome. Kids need to attend with an adult.

To make this movie sensory friendly, the lights will be lowered to a dim level, but not off and the sound system will be kept at a lower level. English subtitles will also be on screen.
