Pitch in for PAVSA

Pitch in for PAVSA is a double-elimination bags tournament supporting the Program to Aid Victims of Sexual Assault, presented by Jade Cavallin, a financial advisor at Viridian Wealth. The event includes a 50/50 raffle drawing for a $300 Super One gift card or a kayak. One dollar is donated to PAVSA for every drink sold during the event.

Preregistration for the tournament is $35 online at scoreholio.com; same-day walk-up registration is $45.

Scandinavian Festival 2026

The 45th annual Scandinavian Festival celebrates Scandinavian folk art and entertainment. It includes rosemaling, carving, kolrosing, hardanger, jewelry, woodenware, knitting and miscellaneous Scandinavian-themed gifts. Attendees experience Scandinavian music and folk art demonstrations, along with Scandinavian treats and lefse. This year’s festival also includes the work of several new vendors.

Admission is $5 for adults and free for children age 12 and under.

History and a Pint: Charting a New Course: How Duluth Harnessed the ‘Spirit of 76′

While Duluth’s economic struggles of the early 1970s are well-documented, its incredible Bicentennial boom is a story waiting to be told. In 1975 and 1976, dozens of diverse ethnic festivals celebrated Northland heritage, sparking major community improvements—including the renovation of the St. Louis County Depot itself. Duluth civic and commercial leaders jumped on the bandwagon early, making Duluth the very first official Bicentennial Community in Minnesota.

David Huckfelt & The Unarmed Forces

David Huckfelt is a singer / lyricist / activist and founding frontman of Minneapolis indie-folk band, The Pines. Huckfelt has shared stages with artists from Prine, Mavis Staples & Emmylou Harris to Bon Iver, Calexico and Trampled By Turtles. His work with The Pines received record of the year accolades from Mojo & Q Magazine, and garnered praise from David Fricke (Rolling Stone) as one of the finest songwriters of his generation. In 2018 Huckfelt received the prestigious Artist-In-Residence award at Isle Royale National Park on Lake Superior, where in sixteen days he wrote the fourteen songs that would become his breakout solo debut, Stranger Angels.

In 2012, he met American Indian Movement leader & poet John Trudell on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, and their subsequent collaboration resulted in the song “Time Dreams”, hailed by Democracy Now! and the last recording Trudell made before passing.

Disability Rights Celebration

IndiGO’s Disability Rights Celebration honors the disability rights movement and the advocates, past and present, who have led change within their communities to build a more accessible and equitable world.

This year is the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which is landmark legislation in the ongoing fight for equity and access.

The event includes a community resource fair, a local art and maker market, light refreshments, live music and stories. American sign language interpreters will be present.

Chicago Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet

Matinee Musicale: Chicago Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet

Continuing a legacy which began in 1951, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet defines the distinctive and world-renowned “Chicago brass sound.” Recent tours have included sold-out concerts in Japan, China, Taiwan and Mexico. In summer 2024 the quintet made its European festival debut in Ravenna, Italy, followed by master classes and concerts at the Galicia Brass Festival in Spain. In January 2024 the group provided fanfare for an event hosted by France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs bestowing the “Commander of the Legion of Honor” on Maestro Riccardo Muti. All five members of the quintet are sought after brass pedagogues who hold positions at prestigious universities such as Northwestern, DePaul and Roosevelt.

Adult tickets are $35 in advance at matineemusicale.org, and $40 at the door. Tickets for senior citizens are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Student admission is free.

Doors open at 2:30 p.m. and after the concert, attendees are invited to meet the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet during a free reception.

Matinee Musicale is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization that has brought world-class chamber music to the Duluth-Superior area since 1900. Its annual concert series focuses on young, rising artists.
