It’s tough to see this cast of characters, then see the DNT’s lead article on Senator Wellstone. Will we ever see another elected official who led with such passion, commitment, and honesty? I miss him.
In Wellstone’s defense, he asked his constituents to educate him on LGBT issues and he said in his book “The Conscience of a Liberal” that he felt his vote for DOMA was a mistake. If he were here today, I’m pretty sure he’d be standing shoulder to shoulder fighting against the Marriage Ammendment.
A lot of people who voted for DOMA have apologized and completely reversed course. President Clinton signed it into law, and has since supported gay marriage. Rep. Bob Barr, the original sponsor of DOMA, has spoken out in favor its repeal.
15-20 years ago was such a different time. Many leading gay rights advocates today had a totally different tune back then. The country has evolved a lot in two decades. In two more decades, gay marriage hopefully won’t even be an issue we have to discuss.
Wait, if we’re (okay, by “we” I mean the born-again Gawd luvin Christians) all supposed to get raptured in two months when the Mayan calendar runs out … why the heck are they making this big fuss about silly laws of man anyhow?

Just sick of the Christian bashing all the time. Sure we have our extremists and kooks, but every group of humans does. Quit being bigoted, and perhaps those extremist Christians will as well.
My problem lies with the fact that In.dog.neato lumped the entire Christian population into one group and clearly painted it as ignorant and bigoted itself. That simply isn’t true. Anytime anyone decides to persecute and judge an entire group based on the actions of a few, there is clearly a prejudice there.

When the dominant group can’t take criticism or understand satire, that’s their issue- not mine. We need freedom FROM religion more than ever. Disagree? Fine. God, hell, et al are manufactured constructs of man, and I don’t really care if religious people have hurt feelings.
I noticed something: Peta Lindsay is running under the Socialism and Liberation party. Peta was born in 1984, so she is constitutionally barred from serving as President. Her VP was born in Colombia, so he is constitutionally barred from serving as well.
I understand their whole split from the Workers World Party, but seriously, if smaller third-party groups want to gain recognition, it’d help if the candidates they choose could actually do the job.
Would you have preferred that I had used “Pentecostal” Christians? “Neo-Evangelical” Christians? “Acolytes of The Good Reverend Falwell?” “Worshipers of the Holy Ordained Megachurch in Houston, TX?”

I think the “quit being bigoted” applies to those that have done the most damage and hold the most power as a matter of first principal.
