Duluth Pothole Patrol
Driving around this weekend I noticed more potholes than usual. What are the worst streets in town so I can avoid them to save on my shocks?

Superior: Grand Avenue between E 2nd Street and N 5th Street (Across from Lidgerwood). It’s the worst one block stretch in Superior – its more of extreme heaving/potholes/poor blacktop situation they got going on there.
Hit one on Commonwealth in 45mph zone heading out towards Mont Du Lac, before Becks road that blew the bead off my tire and bent my rim.
Where’s John Ramos’ yearly pothole report?
Ramos’ long-silent Cheerleader Blog has finally had some activity in recent days, with new posts about his recent cab driving adventures — but no pothole reports yet.
My worst streets in Duluth are First Avenue East from Fourth Street up the hill to Mesaba. Also the one that actually made me start this post is Glenwood in Lakeside. From 45th Avenue East to 60th Avenue East it’s like a washboard. I have a class out there and now am taking an alternative route.
-First Street west of Mesaba Ave to Piedmont.
-Skyline west of Haines/40th Ave. W
-Restormal from 3rd St to its terminus
-27th Ave W – Third St up to about 10th st.
-Bristol St (is that the name? – near the West Duluth Super One)
Ditto on Glenwood. I was out there again today thinking that it’s pretty Third World right now, pretty much every single inch from about 54th to 40th.
East Fouth Strett from … well, all of East Fourth Street is pretty bad, too. Especially near Essentia-ish area.
Glenwood is ridiculous. We’ve been avoiding it all winter.
Also, the intersection of 47th Avenue E and Otsego St is a driving hazard– a puddle soaking pavement off the road for the past two weeks.
Seriously. I hit a pothole last night so bad it took out a headlight.
@PittStYogis. It’s my class at Yoga North and the bumpy route there that made me post this. Another street that I don’t understand at all why it’s so bad because the police station is on it is Fourth Avenue West downtown.
The section of First Street above the Incline Station was closed for repairs for weeks, but the road surface wasn’t repaired along with whatever they were doing. It’s annoying to finally get the road back but it’s still in such bad shape.
There’s a dandy on Arlington right where Rice Lake Road jogs north off of Arrowhead. Also another big’un is the on 40th Avenue West ramp headed onto I-35 northbound.
The exit ramp from the top level of the US Bank lot on Michigan. I thought the undercarriage of my vehicle was damaged or at least a tire rim bent. Sure it’s not a street, but Holy Holey Potholes, Batman.
Tribeska … the little triangle below Skyline where we live (made up of Chester Park Drive, East 10th Street, Eden Lane, Belmont, etc.) is chock full of potholes!
Skyline RD that that weaves around Chester park is really bad. Also the ally between lawn street and Kent is horrible. I know its not a street but I cant even get my car down it…..
Thanks!!
Fix Fourth Street between 19th and 21st avenues. It’s very bad.
Yes it is, Lee. I quit using Fourth and use Third. The traffic travels faster on Third anyway.
There is a small crater-like pothole along East 5th Street going east…past the 4th Avenue East street sign. HUGE AND DANGEROUS!!
Tioga Street in Lakeside has some HUGE dips in it, from 50th Ave East to 52nd East.
We hit one turning left onto the I35 S onramp after crossing the Bong Bridge from Superior that flattened a tire and hopefully didn’t do any more damage. I’ll find out tomorrow. It felt like the bottom of the car fell off.
