Postcard from the Municipal Zoo at Fairmount Park in 1961
This postcard featuring an image of what is now called Lake Superior Zoo was mailed Aug. 14, 1961 — 65 years ago today.
The caption on the back reads:
Municipal Zoo at Fairmount Park
Duluth, Minn.
Maintained by the city of Duluth, Minnesota, this zoo houses an unusually fine collection of animals. Every year, thousands of visitors to the Head of the Lakes area stop to enjoy this beautiful park and zoo.
The recipient of the card was Paul Phillips, courtesy of the Standard Oil Company of California. The written message reads:
Dear Paul,
Zig-zagging to Brantford, Ont., to live with my sister who lost her husband a few months ago. Sorry, I didn’t get to say “goodbye” to you before I left S.F., but hope to go out there next winter and will see you then.
Best of luck,
A. J. Sheere (?)
