Postcard from the Aerial Bridge Over Ship Canal in Duluth - Perfect Duluth Day

Postcard from the Aerial Bridge Over Ship Canal in Duluth

Duluth’s Aerial Bridge was but a year old when this postcard was mailed on July 12, 1906 — 120 years ago today.

The caption under the photo reads:

Aerial Bridge Over Ship Canal, Duluth, Minn.

Second of its kind in the world. Clear span, 400 feet; clear height, 136 feet; total height above water, 185 feet.

The card was mailed from Minneapolis to Mr. Harry L. Landis of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. It arrived in Waynesboro on July 16. The handwritten message on the front of the card reads:

Dear Harry: This is the only bridge of the kind in the country. Father will explain it to you. We are well; tired this eve. Lovingly, Mother.
