Duluth-based artist, animator and climate advocate Lisa Fitzpatrick was recognized with an Outstanding Environmental Film Award at the Short. Sweet. Film Fest., an event in Cleveland, Ohio that highlights short features. Her submission, Love Song for Earth, was part of the festival’s environmental program on March 4.

Fitzpatrick shared this about the work:

In a temperate world of fantastic creatures and gentle breezes in boreal forests and tropical jungles, a gluttonous group of ogres greedily guzzle the earth’s minerals, releasing toxic hot gases into the increasingly warming atmosphere. How can the city folk and country folk quickly and carefully outwit the slippery-tongued ogres?

The song for earth, La La Leku, is very old. My grandfather, born in Finland in 1870, sang it to my mother as a child. She sang it to me and I sing it to my daughter. I am sharing it to the world, with love and hope. Please sing as you walk in the woods.
