Foundation seeks projects encouraging citizen involvement

It feels to me like there are organizations in Duluth well-poised for a project supported by the Herb Block Foundation. After all, we are home to the Civility Project. If there is an organization interested, I’m interested in helping — after all, it’s sponsored by a famous cartoonist.

The Herb Block Foundation is committed to defending basic freedoms, combating discrimination and prejudice, and improving the condition of the poor and underprivileged. The foundation invites applications for its Encouraging Citizen Involvement program, which seeks to help ensure a responsible, responsive democratic government through citizen involvement. Proposals may focus on citizen education and greater voter participation in the electoral process. All projects must be nonpartisan and may not involve lobbying for specific legislation or candidates. Grants of between $5,000 and $25,000 will be awarded. Applicants must be nonprofit organizations as defined by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Deadline: June 1, 2023
