Mystery Photo: Fire Department Captain

This mystery photo is another from the studio of the fiery ol’ Swede Lars Liden. Penned on the photo is something along the lines of “f. d. Capt. Axel Strom.”

It seems somewhat clear that the photo is of the captain of some fire department, and since the photo was shot in Duluth it is likely this captain represents Duluth or some municipality near Duluth. So, Axel Strom? Is that the name?

I have tried my traditional history detective methods, and am not coming up with an Axel Strom related to a fire department in the Duluth area. There are a couple Axel Stroms over the years. One was a Baker from Sweden and the other a machinist. There was a Reverend Axel Strom in Superior. Maybe the fire department was a volunteer/side gig for him?

There was a George Strom on the Duluth Fire Department in 1905-1906, listed as a "truckman." No Axel though.
