June of ’71: Leo Spooner wins Reidar Lund golf tourney

Fifty years ago Duluth’s Leo Spooner won his third Reidar Lund Skyline Memorial Golf Tournament at Enger Park. The victory came on June 27, 1971, and was reported in the June 28 issue of the Duluth Herald.

The then-44-year-old golf veteran had also won the Northland Invitational 10 months prior. In the Reidar Lund tourney he captured victory over Bob Magie III by three strokes.

This issue of the Herald is among those with no local photos, only AP Wire stuff. So instead we turn to the advertising and ask: What became of Jim and Bonnie Malatchi?
