Postcard from Stromgren’s Motel

This undated postcard from Gallagher’s Studio of Photography shows Stromgren’s Motel, located on Highway 61 in Duluth Township.

The caption on the back of the card reads:

Stromgren’s Motel
Clean – Modern – Comfortable
Overlooking Lake Superior
12 miles from downtown Duluth, Minn.
No extra charge for housekeeping units.
Large Playground for children.
Hi-way 61 – North Shore Drive – JA 5-4123

I haven't found a proper/specific address for Stromgren's, so I don't know.

It looks like Stromgren’s was actually about two miles north of McQuade Road, just south of the French River. On a Two Harbors forum, someone who grew up next to Stromgren’s describes it as being “a quarter mile towards Duluth from the Ryan Road.” Historical satellite photos confirm that location, as shown in the image from 1972 below. Google gives the current address for the approximate location as 5334 North Shore Drive. Trees have grown where the buildings once were, but the entrance road still has the same shape.
