Postcard from Thomson Dam Hydro Station

This card is postmarked May 3, 1909 — 110 years ago today. Edis Johnson sent it from Duluth to Mr. H.T. West of Toronto, Canada.

The caption at the top reads:

Waterfall of the Great Northern Power Co., at Thompson, Minn., 18 Miles from Duluth, which will supply power for factories and other Plants at Duluth and Superior.

The Town of Thomson is actually spelled without a “P,” and is less than five miles from Duluth — but it is roughly 18 miles from Downtown Duluth.

The message on the back reads:

Many thanks for the very pretty card. Pardon delay as I have been very busy in the office working night and day. This water power runs the cars and almost all electrical equipment here.
