Postcards from Turk’s Clearview Court

The undated postcard above shows an aerial view of Turk’s Clearview Court at 8015 Congdon Boulevard in Lakewood Township, just outside Duluth’s northeastern border.

The text on the back of the card reads:

Well back from the highway to assure a quiet nights rest. Knotty cedar lined with picture windows looking over majestic and beautiful Lake Superior. All have shower bath, vented heat and free radios. Fully equipped for housekeeping with electric refrigeration. Playground for children.

Claudia was born in St. James, Minnesota to Reeder and Rose Mary Morris. She had a brother Joseph Morris. She was raised in Minneapolis and worked as an AT&T telephone operator. She met and married Joseph Turk, a diamond setter. They moved to Duluth, MN and built Turk’s Clearview Court on the north shore of Lake Superior. Her mother, Rose Mary and Stanley Coleman lived next door. They had a daughter, Mary Jo and a son, Keith. Joe had a diamond setting and repair business named Service Jewelry. They were active members of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Lakeside.

Mary Jo married Michael Olmstead and they had a daughter Bridget. Keith married Beverly Mandy and they had a daughter Paula. After retirement they traveled to Padre Island, Texas for several winters and then bought a winter home in Harlingen, TX.

In 1985, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family and friends in Texas. In June 1986, Joe was ill for several months and passed away.

In 1988, Claudia moved to Grand Rapids, MN. During her time in Grand Rapids, she attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She loved telling stories, playing cards, traveling with her cousins and gardening was her love.

Claudia lived in her own home until 2003 when a serious fall brought her to Grand Village care center. She enjoyed visiting with others and wheeling around in her chair.

Her daughter Mary Jo passed away in 2005 at the age of 57. Mary Jo left behind her daughter Bridget and granddaughters, Andrea Imsdahl of Minneapolis, MN and Chelsey Irwin. Bridget and Chelsey live in Grapeview, Washington.

Claudia also lost her beloved brother, Joe and beloved cousins, Betty Lou and Lorraine.

Her granddaughter Paula married Andrew Timofeev in 2006 and they have a daughter Sophia Rose, who is one year old, they live in Westford, Massachusetts.

Claudia will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
