Mystery Photo #69: Tall Ship

Based on fashions of the spectators, this photo appears to be circa the 1990s. Throngs have gathered to watch a tall ship sail into the Duluth Harbor. What is the name of the vessel? When precisely did this happen?

Perhaps a few alternate shots from the same day will help solve the mystery. The last one shows Bayfront Park with the old yellow canvas canopy over the stage.

This might help narrow it down: Prior to Duluth's Tall Ships Festivals, tall ships that have passed through the Duluth Ship Canal include the Christian Radich in 1976, T. S. Merkur in 1985, Victory Chimes in 1986, Pride of Baltimore II in 1989, and the HMS Rose in 1994.

Of those options, the mystery ship seems to most closely resemble the HMS Rose. It's not a perfect match, but certainly a few paint jobs have happened since 1994.

This 1996 documentary produced for the History Channel, titled The Great Ships: Frigates focuses on the USS Constitution (in Boston harbor) but the ship shown sailing looks like our mystery tall ship.
