Duluth Liquor Stores vs. Tattoo Parlors

duluth-liquor-store tattoo-of-life-bridge

In recent years I’ve noticed a number of Duluth liquor stores have gone out of business while a number of tattoo parlors have opened. I like to joke that the latter business model depends on the former, but lately I’ve had the perception that at some point in recent history the number of tattoo parlors grew to exceed the number of liquor stores.

An ongoing count, however, suggests otherwise. The lists in this post show 16 liquor stores within Duluth city limits, but only five tattoo parlors. Of course, I tend to keep better tabs on where beer can be procured than on places to have my flesh artistically carved. So help me out. What liquor stores or tattoo parlors are missing from these lists?

Duluth Liquor Stores
Big Bottle Shop
Canal Park Liquors
Cash Wise Liquor
Fitger’s Wine Cellar
Gary Liquor
George’s Liquor
Lake Aire Bottle Shop
Lake Superior Bottle Shop
Loiselle Liquor Store

Shanty Bottle Shop
Super One Liquor
27 Liquor
University Liquor

I think at some point about ten years ago Kenwood Liquor closed and George's Liquor opened, but I'm not sure exactly what happened there.

How the hell did I forget the Shanty and Lake Superior Bottle?

Also, I think technically you can get off-sale at Billy's, but technically, that might be outside of Duluth.

And here I thought all the comments would be about tattoo shops missing from the list.

Canal Park Liquor has been added to the list. Billy's is in Rice Lake Township.

Isn't there a liquor store right inside the main entrance to Fitger's?

Fitger's Wine Cellar is the liquor store of which John Beargrease speaks.

Strangely, my original list included several liquor stores I haven't so much as entered in five years, but I neglected to list several places I've made purchases from in the past six months.
