Where in Duluth? #136

Where-oh-where

This might be the most difficult “Where in Duluth?” ever. Ask questions in the comments for clues. You’ll need them.

I'm not sure of the address, but back in the mid to late 1860s there was a G.E. Supply warehouse on Lake Avenue just across the footbridge heading south on the east side. I remember the glass blocks on it.

But, I've been gone from Duluth for over 43 years, so that building probably isn't there any longer.

My WAG for the day.

I just looked on Google, it appears that address is now occupied by Channel 6 News. Halvorson Equipment had a parts dept. on the other side (east) of that building back then and later moved to the Meierhoff Building at 325 S. Lake Ave. My memory is pretty foggy these days.

Somewhere in Duluth, there's a nervous spy trying to find a new dead drop location.

Your memory is pretty good, Les, but you are off in terms of guessing the correct building.

The GE Supply Building in Canal Park has indeed been in use by KBJR-TV -- now known as the Northland's NewsCenter -- since mid-1999.

The structure in question in this "Where in Duluth?" photo is not in the Canal Park neighborhood.

And now I'll take my clues and shove them. This one has been solved on Facebook by Ervin Nation, who successfully identified the location as a section of the exterior alley-side wall of Mitch's Bar & Grill in the friendly West End.

I thought it was the Glass Block.
