Photos of Last Night’s Northern Lights in Duluth
It’s fairly rare that the aurora borealis is this visible in Duluth. Solar eruptions triggered a severe geomagnetic storm over the weekend, causing brilliant colors last night that kept photographers and sky gazers up into the morning. Gathered here are a few images from the PDD Facebook page and other social media.

I sat on an upstairs deck with the dog’s head on my foot and the wind blowing the scent of lilacs around, and watched until way too late. A perfect Duluth night.
This one by Travis Novitsky, shot at Hollow Rock in Grand Portage, is at this point the most ridiculously awesome one I’ve seen so far.
“Selfie with Aurora” didn’t turn out as well as I hoped it would.
There is not a single thing about that photo I would characterize as disappointing.
And, of course, this Matthew Moses video is pretty sweet.
