Kickstarter campaign to fund Snobarn’s debut album

For the past 56 days of their Kickstarter fundraising campaign, members of the local band Snobarn have been working their tails off. They’ve been playing live sets (upward of a dozen during the past two months), doing interviews on radio and TV, and madly promoting their cause via social media. Now, more than ever, time is of the essence. Their online fundraising window on Kickstarter will finally close late Sunday night (or very early Monday morning), Feb. 4, at precisely 2:35 a.m.

Snobarn is a 5-piece electrified folk band from Duluth. Band members include: Ariane Norrgard (guitar/vocals), Gaelynn Lea (violin/vocals), George Ellsworth (bass), Chad Erlemeier (drums), and Bryan “Lefty” Johnson (percussion). They have a unique, louder-than-folk-but-quieter-than-rock feel that utilizes rich vocal harmonies, intricate instrumentation, and layered rhythms. They aim to write songs that are catchy but not campy, thought-provoking but not despairing. Their debut album will consist of 11 original songs, and is due out June 2013.

The band is hoping to raise a grand total of $5,000 before their project’s deadline in order to record their first full-length album (debt-free) with Eric Swanson and Alan Sparhawk at Sacred Heart Music Studio. Sean Elmquist (Chaperone Records) will be mastering the album, and graphic artists David Moreira and Shawn Stigsell will be collaborating on the cover art; David will be hand screen-printing all the artwork onto CD and vinyl jackets.

As of this writing (early Thursday morning), Snobarn still has $1,100 to go before they hit their dream goal of $5,000 (allowing them to record the album debt-free). Their Kickstarter project has already garnered the support of 109 “backers”… so the members of Snobarn have a lot to be grateful for already!

If you would like to push Snobarn closer to its goal, please consider making a secure online donation to this project by visiting the band’s campaign on Kickstarter.com.

Click the green button (“Back This Project”) to the right of the page, and then Kickstarter will walk you through the rest of the process. Everyone who pledges $10 or more will receive a free copy of the CD when it is completed!

Snobarn has one last Kickstarter promotion show at Lake Ave Cafe on Jan. 31 (Thursday, aka tonight), starting at 9 p.m. The band will be joined by Mary Bue and Loup Garou. Their online fundraising endeavors officially end on Sunday night, and then recording starts Monday. They plan to find some time in there for a nap.
