Arrowhead Regional Arts Council Rural and Community Arts Grants

The Arrowhead Regional Arts Council approved at its November 17, 2011, meeting grant applications totaling $20,650 to be awarded in Rural and Community Arts Grants. The funding for these grants is made available by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008, and an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature. The arts organizations funded are as follows:

Rural and Community Art Grants Awarded

Calumet Public Library – Calumet ($3,000) Calumet Public Library will use this grant to commission painter Scott Murphy of Duluth to paint a mural in the library’s public room that relates to the history of the town of Calumet and the library.

Mesabi Community Orchestra – Virginia ($3,000) Mesabi Community Orchestra will use this grant to collaborate with solo pianist Alexander Sandor to present a romantic-themed concert on February 11th in Virginia and February 12th, 2012, in Ely.

Ely Winter Festival – Ely ($3,000) Ely Winter Festival will use this grant to produce the Snow Sculpture Symposium, featuring the carving of giant snow sculptures in Whiteside Park by local, regional and international artists from February 2nd to 12th, 2012, in Ely.

Good Harbor Hill Players – Grand Marais ($3,000) Good Harbor Hill Players will use this grant to create and perform an original shadow puppet show with live music to observe the Winter Solstice outdoors on the harbor in Grand Marais on December 21, 2011.

The Creativity Tank – Grand Rapids ($2,650) The Creativity Tank will use this grant to sponsor the second Northern Creations Spring Arts and Crafts Show on March 24th and 25th, 2012, at the IRA Civic Center Arena in Grand Rapids.

Range Artists Association – Hibbing ($3,000) Range Artists Association will use this grant to present three workshops featuring local professional artists with an open house as a culminating activity to display the finished projects.

Ely ArtWalk – Ely ($3,000) The Ely ArtWalk will use this grant to produce its annual 11-day winter art show coinciding with The Ely Winter Festival to be held February 2nd to 12th, 2012.

This is excellent news, thanks for sharing. I'm happy to see money invested in things that will be enrich to these communities.
