Duluth City Council District One Election
PDD is conducting a bit of an experiment in today’s race for the District One Duluth City Council seat between incumbent Todd Fedora and challenger Jennifer Julsrud. UMD journalism students we be poll watching at the seven precincts in District One, and they will be hustling to report the results in record time.
As usual, we will have complete election results on PDD, but we intend to be much faster with the District One City Council race than with everything else. Why have we singled out that particular contest? Because we think it will be a close race and we don’t want to cover all of the city’s 36 precincts with this little experiment.
So wish us luck and watch for the results.

When you planning on posting the results? This race, and the 4th, are the two nail-biters. The others — not so much.
I don’t want to set this experiment up for failure and embarrassment by predicting a time … I’m just saying I’m fairly confident we can have the numbers pretty darned fast. If we do, we’ll brag about it as much as modest Minnesotans can. If we don’t, we’ll quietly blush and try to make ourselves feel better by focusing on how we learned something.
Ive participated in poll watching myself, you will have the numbers pretty damn fast. I remember one election, we knew the results an hour before the media reported it. Good luck.
You should do well.

Interesting to see the precinct breakdowns. This is [if the current numbers hold up] one small step back toward truth, justice, and goodness after that awful 2008 liquor vote.

On the recount, as of 3:00, the results of Precincts 1, 2, 3 and 4 all stand.
Jennifer Julsrud has been declared the winner of the recount, and District #1’s new Duluth City Councilor.
Sounds like after a partial 6 hour recount Fedora decided to no longer contest it, saying he thought the numbers where accurate and the equipment was precise in the count.
Fedora showed a lot of class in this recount.
