Arts council awards $27,834

The Arrowhead Regional Arts Council approved on May 19, 2011, grant applications totaling $27,834 to be awarded in Arts and Cultural Heritage Community Arts Learning Grants. The funding for these grants is made available by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008. The arts organizations funded are as follows:

Three Bridges International Chamber Music Festival – Duluth ($5,000) Three Bridges International Chamber Music Festival will use this grant to provide master classes, seminars, lessons, and coachings during this year’s festival, June 6-13, 2011.

Matinee Musicale – Duluth ($4,380) Matinee Musicale will use this grant to support a residency-concert program in area high schools by the Imani Winds during February 12-14, 2012.

Northern Lake County Arts Board – Silver Bay ($5,000) The Northern Lake County Arts Board will use this grant to underwrite a puppetry and storytelling residency and performance led by Native American artists, to take place in the Silver Bay school system throughout May, 2012.

Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra – Duluth ($5,000) The Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra will use this grant to improve the educational outreach of the 15th Annual Quartet Project, which will take place between July 11-28, 2011, on the campus of the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

Arts on Superior – Two Harbors ($5,000) Arts on Superior will use this grant to provide a 12-week writing/story-telling residency and publication in the 3rd grade classes of the Minnehaha School in Two Harbors with Rachel Nelson and others during the 2011/12 school year.

Laurentian Arts and Culture Alliance – Virginia ($3,454) The Laurentian Arts and Culture Alliance will use this grant to support beginning, hands-on, photographic workshops for children with Charlene Luoma, Jill Aubin, and Mark Sauer during the early fall of 2011.
