Duluth Electronic Music

It seems that there has been an increase of DJ’s and electronic music artists in Duluth. I’ve been told that anyone with a laptop can write electronic music. This is true, but usually it’s not very enjoyable to listen to. Either way, I like to mess around with it. I thought I’d just share with the community a hobby I’ve been working on for maybe a year now. Music is as subjective as any art, so it’s cool not to like it. If you have any critiques or comments then let me know! I’d love to hear how much you enjoy or don’t enjoy what I’m doing.

Mr. Ness

Note: My project name has nothing to do with Mayor Ness.

    Very nice. Thanks for sharing.

I just recently started recording at home as a little hobby myself. My set-up is a little primitive by today’s standards, though. I just have a Target-bought keyboard, a Tascam 4-track, and a few acoustic instruments. I’m yet to buy any studio software for the laptop. Do you recommend any software/equipment that’s affordable and effective?

Anyway, keep doing what you’re doing. Cheers.

Not bad at all, thanks for sharing.

I like your slightly “dirty” dubstep sound on your newest track as it wasn’t overpowering, but just enough to make it awesome. It has to be my favorite of the tracks that I listened to.

I had mixed feelings about having DJs this year at Chester Creek Cafe for Homegrown — I kinda pined for bands. But I did get won over by it because it was interesting and listenable.

I would be willing to host you guys for a Sunday or Tuesday night dance party in our wine bar or basement if that is something you might want to do. Say 8-10PM?

Let me know if anyone is interested.

It’s true, anybody with a laptop can write electronic music. Similarly anyone with fingers and a guitar can play guitar, and anyone with an able body can sing. However, musical talent, education, practice and knowledge are important part of the whole thing too.

After watching the Homegrown “new bands night” on the Playlist, it appears that everyone can play an instrument well, but no one can sing. This also goes for approximately 80% of all bands I’ve ever seen play live or heard on the radio.

@Margaret: I agree completely. I’m going to school for Music Education. I had a musical ear and could somewhat understand and feel music, but I definitely didn’t have the education the be knowledgeably creative.
