Any sitar players out there?

I’m looking to learn and didn’t know if anyone in the Duluth world here had any suggestions.

    Hey Marc –
For starters – there’s quite a bit online (tuning, scales, free tutorials, etc.). Unless things in the Twin Ports have changed in the last 4 years, there are no sitar players/teachers in the area. I dug and dug and dug. I even asked around in Duluth’s surprisingly large (and somewhat hidden) east Indian community with no luck. The closest teachers I found were in Mpls. I self-taught myself out of circumstance. The only “lesson” I even received was from Paul Metzger, who told me he really didn’t like sitars. Why? Because they’re very difficult to play and they’re very unforgiving. But it can be done! Just remember, a sitar is not a guitar. Properly playing a sitar is to unlearn just about everything you know. Good luck!
