I mean, it’s a wide sidewalk. There’s not really much to say about it, is there?
One thought I had was that Jubilee (Super One?) will probably be installing a handicapped walkway from the Lakewalk up to their parking lot before long.
Still not clear how the Lakewalk will be getting across Lester River. Anyone know?
Between 45th and ~54th the Lakewalk extension is basically a sidewalk. It’s super close to Superior street and not very scenic. I suppose there have to be a few non-exciting links to make the whole loop.
It does, however, make a fabulous place to practice riding a two-wheeler without training wheels (provided the sidewalk isn’t crowded): flat, no cross traffic, wider than a sidewalk. My 5-year-old is —><— this close to being a bike rider with full rights and respinsibilities.
City of Duluth
Lakewalk East Extension Phase V
This project is to construct .5 miles of a 10 foot wide
bituminous trail beginning approximately at 64th Avenue
East near Highway 61 in Duluth, cross either over or
under the highway with a pedestrian bridge or culvert and
terminate at Brighton Beach….
City of Duluth
Lakewalk East Extension Phase IV
This project is to construct a 1 mile, 10 foot wide
bituminous trail beginning at approximately 60th Avenue
East, crossing the Lester River on a new bridge and
terminating prior to Highway 61 near Brighton Beach.
It’s great, and will be greater if it’s plowed in the winter so it doesn’t turn into an ice slick like the section from 26th Ave E to 40th did last winter.
Sure wish they had this when I was growing up in Lakeside!
And I hope the lady with the scooter from Lakeland Shores apts. uses it when traveling to Lester Park Super One rather than the middle of Superior Street. Scary!
Good call, Piglet. With all the brouhaha about mini-trucks last night at the city council meeting, I think someone ought to tackle Scooter Lady and her not-ready-for-prime-time wheels. Lord.
Must have missed the mini-truck issue. However I agree that scooters should have some guidelines. Or maybe they do have to follow the rules of the road and some choose not to? Humph, never thought of that until now. Deep thoughts on a rainy day.
Love it. Now I have a great way from my house to Lester Park.
It’s good.

Right. It’s a good way to get through Lakeside by bike, but I can’t imagine going for a walk on it. But people do.

This has been great for the Lakeside neighborhood. Lets hope they plow it this winter.

Drove by part of it today and Superior St. was flooded halfway across … hiking trails are nice but impervious surfaces = flooding during heavy rain.
