Ooooooh... Yes, this is a great PDD topic. I'm an "out" gay man and lived in the Twin Ports for 6 years. I never knew guys who went to this place, although I knew a few who went once just to see what was actually going on there. But the place stays in business. So WHO is it that goes there? I would love to know. I had theorized it must be guys from MPLS who come up to visit, but now I live in MPLS and again I don't even hear one mention of the place within the gay male community. And yet it is supposedly the only gay bathhouse in the Midwest outside of Chicago. This place has always perplexed me.

Yeah, it's pretty gay. I've heard that the downstairs is a pretty happenin' place (depending on what you're looking for). From experience (twice in the past month), however, the upstairs is fabulous!! Of course, I was there solely for the purpose of taking a sauna (SMDC was closed for renovation). For $19 you get a (divey hotel) room with a bed, TV, boombox, and a lamp! Oh- and a piping hot (hottest in town) sauna/steam room! May sound a little steep, but if you love saunas as much as I do...

Interesting. Yes, what I've heard is that there is a level for gay men and a separate level for the average sauna clientele. What's so perplexing to me is that being in the gay community is somewhat like being part of a small town. It seems everyone knows everyone. And yet I never heard much discussion about this place - certainly not enough that one would think it stays in business. Now I either theorize that there is enough "regular" business to sustain it, or being that I am "out" and interacting with other "out" gay men, we don't need to hide out in a Sauna. Maybe much of their gay business is closeted. Interesting.

I'm pretty sure there is a regular crowd, but I couldn't imagine who (around town) that might be (nor is it my business), but think single and lonely/horny. I'm guessing that's the type of "scene" you might find if you ventured downstairs. Which, hey, lucky for those guys! I hear there's TV's down there, too...but they aren't playing soaps.

I used to work across the street from there. We always wondered what was going on there. . . none of my co-workers or I ever had the guts to go there, though. The ad confirms all of my suspicions about the place.

I recall their website streaming live UMD library video with the caption "Stalking Local Wildlife at the UMD Library." This is from the May 4 2010 DNT.

The irony is that when you're in a sauna, everybody is hot. Think about it.
