Superior Grown Food Summit: Nov. 14

The Superior Grown Food Summit seeks to provide a forum for strengthening our food system according to community needs and desires. As a public conversation on our food system, the Summit seeks to engage food related issues, questions and concerns relevant to the Lake Superior bioregion. It will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, from 9 am – 5 pm in the main ballroom in Kirby Plaza at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Registration will be $10 and will include a local food meal.

Morning sessions will outline current research and perspectives on our food system and explore examples of successful food localization in other parts of the U.S. Lunch will include a keynote speaker. Two afternoon breakout sessions will integrate community voices on food needs and food localization steps.

At the Summit we seek to gain diverse input from producers and eaters in our food system; discuss strategies for greater food security, availability, affordability, and quality; and integrate public goals for greater local and regional food production and processing. After the Summit we will create a Public Document for distribution to participants, politicians, policymakers and other regional partners.
