Tang Cocktail?

The Duluth Art Institute is hosting a “Space Train” on July 31. There will be music by Tangier 57, a chance to look at stars with telescopes, as well as food and drink. (Get your tickets here.)

TANG

To make it really special I would like to figure out a special Tang cocktail to serve – any ideas?

We spent a few years in college experimenting with mixes, determined that we could come up with better drinks than "martinis" or "daquiris" or "manhattans" Tang was one of the materials we experimented with, and it didn't work real well. Be careful, or you may turn the Space Train into the Vomit Comet.
Can you even buy Tang anymore?

The Astronaut's Sunrise replaces orange juice with tang and follows the Tequila Sunrise recipe.

The Red Star had a tangtini for a while that was absolutely to die for... think it was ice cold vodka + tang with a rim of tang powder. Yum yum yum...

Yes! The Death Star's tangtini was sooo good! I would figure that one out and go with that.

Since a couple years ago, the only Tang I've seen has artificial sweeteners in it. I used to buy it to take on trips, but now I get the generic stuff with real sugar. It makes a good slushie. Maybe add a splash of peach schnapps?

Tang-SoCo with a cherry and pineapple juice. Add some pop/fizz candy and call it Moon Rocks.

But seriously, T7 is suuuper excited about this wonderful opportunity to play for a great cause on a TRAIN! In honor of the space-theme, we've given the treatment to a few classic sci-fi hits.

This is an NA version for those of us who are through with the hard stuff, or on a monitor, or both.

When I did my Outward Bound Trip (M276J, if we have any VOBS alums out there) we had a hot drink they called Russian tea. I am not sure what it Russian about it, but here's what it was: 1 - 2 parts TANG, 1 - 2 parts Lipton instant iced tea, add hot water to taste, mix and serve. Also good cold.

The after story is that we liked this stuff so much that we rationed it, in case of cool. mornings, etc. So at the end of the trip we had quite a bit left over and I was allowed to take it home. I put it away and while I was in college and etc, my mom would occasionally dig it out as a remembrance, unsure why, but that is just one of those mother things, I suppose. Her favorite part? Pine needles and twigs preserved from Quetico preserved for years afterward in all the sugar and flavor crystals.

I wish I could go to your train/show but I have to work (Speedy).

In a side note Speedy Wienie has been considering bringing out the TANG as a supplemental beverage, maybe for a special event. All of this has me thinking about it even more seriously.

I have been trying to find the recipe for the Russian tea wildgoose provided. I did an Outward Bound course in Minnesota many years ago and they called it MOBS tea then. I couldn't remember what all was in the tea-I thought there was more to it, it was so great after being out in the cold all day.

I'd love it if my wife or my boss or some other person actually paid that much attention to some thing I wrote or said. Especially when I act like I know what I'm talking about.

As long as I'm here, Sue, did you try my recipe? Did I remember correctly?

I'm looking for the recipe for Russian Tea I had while on a trip with MOBS the summer of '77. I remember instant tea, lemonade mix, tang and a few spices. I wish I could remember what the spices were! The tea was awesome while on the trip and when I came home I made a batch for my family to enjoy. They loved it, too.

I haven't had Tang in three decades. Bummer about the artificial sweetner.

Me too. My mom refuses to believe she ever made it for tupperware parties.
