Green Man 2004

The 2004 Green Man was probably my favorite year. Sure the first one had it’s torrential rains and gale force winds and the last one had record breaking temps and gale force winds but 2004 was great.

Yes that was the year Willie cancelled but there were so many great performances. Cracker, Mason Jennings and Low were headliners but my favorite band all weekend was Devil in a Woodpile. I had tried to book them on my own but could never afford them so thank you Green Man!

That One Guy was pretty amazing as well. What are your best/worst memories of the Green Mans.

It was always strange to see the Black-eyed Snakes performing in daylight.

i don’t remember which year it was, but a couple of mary’s (starfire & v-nick) called me to roust the hippies from the “quiet camping.” stupidly leaving my radio and captain dann behind i went to move them along. the hippies were fine but it turns out there were 2 drunkies who wouldn’t leave and i got into a tussle with one of them. of course my dear friends peered thru their tent and watched the whole thing, probably laughing their asses off. i remember thinking “oops. this guys stronger than i thought”. i’m forever in debt to craig minowa for stepping in and calming said drunky down.

i also got in big trubs that year for having a seeping wound (from a softball slide) leak out on hbh’s sheets. yes. she had sheets in that tent! she was so mad i had to sleep with no pillow.

oh, i forgot to add that the drunk who i had the tussle with later passed out by the fire, wrapped up all cozy in a tarp and caught on fire. joshy had to stomp the fucker out at dawn after he noticed the black smoke billowing up!

wow…yeah, i was in my tent during the deluge @ mont du lac the first year…that brings back memories…and the stillwater prison security guys on 4 wheelers…

the snakes’ set in the tent outside the chalet was rawkin…almost brought the friggin tent down around everyone inside…i remember thinkin that brad was playing particularly well that evening…

damn…now you made me miss green man.

    thanks.

The Mont Du Lac (first) year was definitely my favorite. Green Man hadn’t gotten to ridiculously large proportions yet. The drunk stillwater guys on 4-wheelers freaked me out too (what the heck was that all about, anyway???), but they were surprisingly nice. And the ‘Snakes were good (that was back when they were always good…), as well as every other band that played. My favorite memory was an impromptu drumming party way into the wee hours with Savage Aural Hotbed.

How about the redneck security guys at Mont du Lac? they were super scary.

Best memory- Rich Mattson impersonating drunk Elvis Presley doing karate, at the final “tent collapse in gale force 100 degree wind”year.
