I'm pretty sure this will be a knockout good time, from beginning to end;
assuming the neighbors don't revolt... but even then...
The fact that we are able to use the park for this show is a moral victory for grassroots
civic/arts groups who just want to enjoy Duluth's many fine green spaces!!

Otaku USA: I Am In It

Greeting true believers!

Just a quick note to let ya'll know that I've got four (yes, four!) pages of Japanese album reviews in this month's issue of Otaku USA Magazine. I know that there are occasionally geeky otaku types around here, and I know that there are plenty of music lovers around. Hopefully you'll be able to find something interesting in this month's magazine!

This is really big news for me, not to mention a bit of an honor. I've been a fan of OUSA from the start, and I know all the people involved are the cream of the otaku crop.

For more info on my Japanese music reviewing exploits, you can check out my J-music blog ZB's A-Z of J-Music, as well as the Japanese culture blog Japantor, which I also write for, along with hosting and producing the Japanator Radio show.

OK, back to your regularly scheduled Homegrown coverage. (Come see The Surfactants at Luce on Friday!)

Dose on the geritol and come party with some "middle age educators"!

apron_siteimg2.jpg....and some hot apron models as Tangier 57 and Apron Elecance team up 7pm until 10pm, Saturday May 3rd at the RedStar Martini Bar for the 10th annual Homegrown Music Festival. Racheal Hart and friends will show three sets of her coquettish creations while the swank sounds of the region's premier psychedelic elevator music band-not-a-band-but-a-vibe gets to play along. Not bad for 125 years worth of middle aged educators...wouldn't you say? Oh but there's MORE! T57 will also be releasing the 2 companion CDs which complete the magnum opus triptych we've been working on for the last year. Tangier 57: Last Night Never Happened was the first release and is now available on itunes. Tangier 57: Moves the Masses - featuring Ken Buehler and Tangier 57: Space is the Place are the next two available for the first time on this very night....oh...so much going on, how do us old fuddy duddys keep up? So please, we humbly ask you come to visit us 7pm until 10pm, Saturday May 3rd at the RedStar for the 10th annual Homegrown Music Festival.

Cheers!

Yeah, sure, they're big HBO celebrities now, but I bet we could have got them cheap in 2004. So let's fire up the Wayback Machine and change history! Then we'll be able to say now that we knew them when.

Photobucket">Photobucket

Allow me to break in here and mention there is a newly discovered Velvet Underground bootleg recording from 1967. Ordinarily I'd just nod to myself give it a listen and not mention it, but two and a 1/2 things stand out here.
1/2 - it's encoded at a nice high bit rate (250 vbr), and the quality is surprisingly good for a 40 (!) year old bootleg just uncovered, especially considering it was likely recorded on acetate.
2 - The version of Sister Ray, which clocks in just under 19 mins, kicks seven kinds of ass (Run Run Run is pretty sweet as well, classic VU)
1 - THERE IS A NEW SONG!, ok, without caps, there is a song, in good quality, previously unknown of. "I'm not a young man anymore"

Alrighty, by now either you are now bored, or want to know where to get it. Get it here

listening to dylan ...

in 2000 i was seriously dating a guy and heard the song "it ain't me, babe" sung by joan biaz and it totally resonanted with me and i knew that my boyfriend and i -- although we liked each other -- would break up eventually. our plan was to, instead of verbally breaking up, send this song to the other in the mail when we'd determined it was over.

so ... what's your favorite bob dylan break up song?

Recording advice needed

Is anybody using Audacity or other freeware/ open source sound editor? I want to record a few simple things but am unsure of how to do so. I’m looking to record a guitar and vocal track so I assume I need to have recording software (Audacity or some other cheap software) , a decent soundcard(already have) and a way to hook the mics to the computer. I think there is a way to do this via a USB gadget but am not sure. Does anyone have any advice?

n.e.w.r.e.m.

i'm a die hard rem fan and am the first to admit that their last few offerings have been less than impressive (i think their last great album was new adventures in hi-fi. in fact, it was one of their best albums ever.) well they have a new one coming out on april 1st called accelerate. i'm half excited for it but i'm very impressed with their teaser site called ninetynights.com. it features a short video clip every day until the release of the album. rem and/or video buffs might want to check it out.

ELFIS!!

After spending a couple holiday seasons abroad, I returned poo-pooing the extravagant, gaudy Christmas displays in America. Now that I have a child, though, I am absolutely giddy about the kitsch and events surrounding this season. I love Christmas in the Northland.

This year the little pirate and I went to "Scrooge" at the Playhouse (btw, really good production), "The Nutcracker" performed by the Minnesota Ballet and Monroe's Christmas show.
But tonight is the event I've been looking forward to for a year:

Elfis.jpg

At:Bentlyville 2006 013.JPG

Ive never seen Elfis, but I absolutely LOVE Bentleyville! Even if Elfis is bad, it's gonna be a good time.

WHAT:Elfis
WHERE: Bentleyville
WHEN:6-8 p.m.

Drop me a line if you want to meet up.
