SubSuperior 2026
Free
The fifth almost-annual SubSuperior event is an experimental music and art experience and participatory “proto-festival” of sub- and superaqueous happenings. Instead of taking place at a traditional venue, SubSuperior occupies temporary autonomous zones in and on Lake Superior. It features underwater lithophones, subaqueous open mics and interactive aquatic art. Sessions are scheduled to run July 19-25. The guerilla-style itinerary is highly fluid and dependent on weather and waves.
This year’s SupSuperior beings with a beach cleanup session. Participants are encouraged to pick their favorite Lake Superior shore spot and give it some love, retaining any useful art/music-making materials that might be found so they can be brought to upcoming SubSuperior work sessions. A group will be at the rock beach near the London Road Perkins from noon to 2 p.m. with extra gloves and trash bags for anyone who wants to join.
Fill out the Google Form to follow along with the unplanned plans. The general shape for the week revolves around an opening reception on Sunday night from 6 to 8 p.m. and two daily sessions, Monday through Friday, from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m.
