Lindsie Rank: Free Speech is Easy Until You Hate the Speech

As part of Free Speech Week, Lindsie Rank of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression presents “Free Speech is Easy Until You Hate the Speech.” Rank explores the challenges of supporting free expression in higher education. While nine in 10 college students say free speech is important, research paints a more complicated picture when it comes to offensive, provocative or unpopular speech. What does it really mean to support free expression? Drawing on real campus disputes across the ideological spectrum, Rank discusses what it takes to apply free speech principles consistently.
