Demystifying Sergers

$55
Wed, Nov 4, 2026 5:00 pm Duluth Folk School

Discover the secrets of the serger in this class about a useful-but-mysterious sewing machine. The class will dig into how sergers (sometimes known as overlockers) work, offer some threading tricks, and demystify tension adjustments for clean, balanced stitches. Participants explore the differences between 3-, 4- and 5-thread machines and stitches and learn how each setup is used in real-world sewing — from seam finishing and garment construction to knits and rolled hems. By the end of this class, students will have a clearer understanding of what’s really happening inside a serger, when it’s the right tool for the job, and how to troubleshoot issues before they bring projects to a halt. No serger? Sergers will be provided.
