Once again, Eric Strand embarked on the 52.4-mile journey from the finish line to the starting line and back to the finish line of Grandma’s Marathon. The annual video is usually released in June, but hey, it’s not a race, it’s a marathon … an ultra-marathon.

Nov. 9, 1991: Metallica returned to Duluth for its second concert at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center Arena. Above is the TV promo for the show, which mistakenly refers to the DECC as “the DECK.” Below are performance videos of five songs from the show — “Enter Sandman,” “Harvester of Sorrow,” “The Four Horsemen,” “Whiplash” and “Master of Puppets.”

Video: Amity Creek Gray Foxes

This 15-second clip shot by Richard Hoeg out his living room window shows two gray foxes feasting on sunflower seeds, cracked corn and apple slices.

“This canine pair generally hangs around for 15 to 30 minutes,” Hoeg wrote on his 365 Days of Birds blog.

Duluth’s Lance Karasti makes “micro-budget feature films” shot in his hometown. The video above is a montage of his work from five different productions. Warning: Grisly violence at the end.

The Little Black Books – “A Plum”

From Mark Lindquist’s basement in Baxter comes the new single by the Little Black Books, “A Plum.” The song will be available Nov. 21 as a flexible two-track record on Lindquist’s Baxtrax label. The video was shot in Duluth at R.T. Quinlan’s Saloon.

Coyote – “Quicksand” (Live from Studio A)

Duluth musicians Jerree Small and Marc Gartman have been making acoustic music as Coyote for a decade. In this clip from Sept. 29 they perform the song “Quicksand” in KUMD’s studio A.

The Electric Witch – “Hallowed”

Just in time for Halloween, the Electric Witch released its first official video, “Hallowed.”
