Postcard from a Government Boat at Duluth

Government Boat Duluth

This postcard was mailed 100 years ago today — Aug. 31, 1926. It’s not clear what the big deal was on Duluth’s waterfront that summer, but we can confidently say a bunch of people gathered around a “government boat.”

The card was sent to Mr. and Mrs. Matt Rodenkerch of Ossian, Iowa. The message on the back of the card reads:

Dear ones all —
Just a card to let you know we arrived home O.K. We just got one trunk today (Monday) and the apples were cider. My letter I sent to Eda never came back so someone is two dollars to the good and I am out that much. The weather is much cooler here than it was in Iowa.
Best regards, Henry and Eda
