Mystery Photo: Ekstrom Wedding
Here they are, Berger and Hilda Ekstrom, in their wedding duds. We know their names thanks to the scribbling on the back of the photo. And we know from the cardboard frame that the photographer is Lars Linden, the fiery Swede who had a studio at 1619 W. Superior St. in Duluth. What’s the mystery? Well, everything else. What became of ol’ Berger and Hilda?
The Ekstroms were married on June 29, 1901 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, when Hilda (nee Nelson) was sixteen and Hans Berger was twenty-eight. Berger was a baker at the Central Co-op (in Superior). Berger immigrated from Sweden in 1896. Hans Berger Ekstrom died in 1953. Hilda died in Florida in 1970.
They had at least nine children: Berta, Emma, Hilda, Florence, Henning, Robert, James and Aris. They lived for many years at 1924 W. Third St., in a duplex that is still there.
This is my great grandfather and grandmother … Ekstroms from Duluth.
