Iron Mug Coffee House in Morgan Park

Iron Mug of Morgan Park Iron Mug Iron Mug Coffee

There is a new coffee shop, deli and pizza place in Duluth’s Morgan Park neighborhood — and it also happens to be the only coffee shop or restaurant of any kind in that neighborhood.

Iron Mug opened on July 30 in the old Lakeview Store building, which was constructed in 1916 to serve as one of the first indoor shopping malls in the United States. The building once housed a grocery store and post office, among other things. The largest major tenant in recent years was Advantage Emblem & Screen Printing, which was located in the building from about 1991 to 2008, before moving to the corner of Haines and Arrowhead roads, near the airport.

Some Iron Mug facts:

  • Owned by: Felisha and Brandon Johnson
  • Address: 1096 88th Ave. W.
  • Phone: 218-464-5408
  • Coffee served: Backroads brand from Hayward
  • Hours: Open seven days a week — Mondays through Saturdays 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sundays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

This is why I visit Perfect Duluth Day. I live in Morgan Park and was not aware that this was even happening. I am going to make sure to check it out.

The name makes me think of flakes of rust floating in coffee.

Nice to see new (local!!) businesses popping up, especially in an area I had no other reason to frequent. Coffee and food will bring me out though!

PS Advantage Emblem & Screen Printing is not actually in the Air Park, we’re right next to Titan and the corner of Haines and Arrowhead. 🙂

Ah, yes. I tend to think of that whole area as the Airpark. For clarity I have changed the text above to indicate Advantage is at “the corner of Haines and Arrowhead roads, near the airport.”

I have yet to try the food, but the coffee is honestly, some of the best I’ve had! I usually go to Caribou for my gourmet coffee, but this is my NEW go to coffee spot for sure! Go give them a try and support your local business.

You’re awesome, thank you Paul! (Sorry for the shameless plug, we’re proud of what we do and love to get our name out there). I am definitely getting up extra early to make a trip out to the Mug before work.

I had been meaning to try this place for months now and finally made it here after a mountain bike ride at Mission Creek. The owners did an amazing job fixing this place up. Feels very cozy and clean. Great service and a super friendly server. The scone I tried was great, not too sugary. The chai tea maybe had too much sugar but was still enjoyable. I hope this place succeeds; Morgan Park needs a place like this.

I live down the street in Gary and didn’t know this was here. Will be visiting soon. Winter weather begs for mugs of hot coffee or tea! Thanks, perfect Duluth day!

I love this place. Very comfortable, relaxing environment. Try the chicken bacon ranch wrap. It’s my go-to sandwich. They serve beer, also. Friendly staff, good food/coffee/free Wi-Fi. What is there not to l like?

Went back again today, and brought a friend with me who had never heard of it either, and we tried their awesome pizza, and absolutely loved it!!! She also thought it was a very, very nice place and like me, will be frequenting the Iron Mug often. Next time we’ll try one of their great-looking sandwiches they have!
